Dr. Bradford Lee is an Assistant Professor of Clinical Ophthalmology at Bascom Palmer Eye Institute specializing in oculofacial plastic and reconstructive surgery. He is board certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology and is one of only 600 members of the American Society of Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery (ASOPRS) across the country.
A native of Hawaii, Dr. Lee graduated magna cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa from Harvard University with a degree in biochemical sciences and was recognized as a member of the USA TODAY All-USA College Academic Team. The recipient of Harvard's Frank Knox Memorial Fellowship, he pursued a master's degree in health policy, planning, and financing at the London School of Economics, where he graduated with high honors and was awarded the Brian Abel Smith Prize. He attended Stanford University for medical school, where he received research scholarships to study eye care delivery and health systems improvement in rural South India at the Aravind Eye Care System and San Francisco General Hospital.
Dr. Lee completed his ophthalmology residency at Bascom Palmer, rated the #1 ophthalmology residency program, and went on to complete a prestigious ASOPRS-accredited fellowship in oculoplastics at the University of California, San Diego's Shiley Eye Institute under Dr. Don Kikkawa and Dr. Bobby Korn. During his fellowship, he had the opportunity to work with some of the finest facial plastic surgeons and cosmetic dermatologists throughout Southern California and across the country, and he was a two-time recipient of the Outstanding Teaching Award for his role in medical education. He was awarded the 2016 Marvin L. Quickert Prize from the American Society of Ophthalmic Plastic Surgery for the most outstanding research thesis for his work on differential gene expression in thyroid eye disease.
Dr. Lee has presented his research and taught courses at national and international meetings, including the American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO), American Society of Ophthalmic Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery (ASOPRS), Vegas Cosmetic Surgery, Cosmetic Surgery Forum, Ophthalmology Update, International Thyroid Eye Disease Society, Inter-American Course in Clinical Ophthalmology, and regional meetings in Asia, South America, the Caribbean, Europe, and the Middle East. He has authored numerous peer-reviewed publications and book chapters, including chapters in the best-selling Video Atlas of Oculofacial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery.
At Bascom Palmer, Dr. Lee has an active role in residency education and in training the institute’s three oculoplastics fellows. He has received grants for training residents in cosmetic injectables and regularly teaches surgical cadaver courses on orbital and cosmetic facial surgery.
His clinical practice focuses on thyroid eye disease, cosmetic eyelid and facial surgery, reconstructive eyelid surgery, botulinum toxin and dermal fillers, and laser skin rejuvenation.
Outside of work, he enjoys playing the piano and cello, performing arts, tennis, ocean kayaking, scuba diving, hiking, and traveling. He is fluent in English and Spanish and speaks conversational Mandarin and French.
