Jay Weiss Grand Rounds Series on Social Medicine and Health Equity

Stephen Symes, MD, Associate Professor, Division of Infectious Diseases, and Program Director, Internal Medicine Training Program at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine.
Dr. Symes, who recently was awarded the Arthur Helton Humanitarian Award by the Florida Immigrant Advocacy Center, will present “Documenting abuse for Victims of Torture and Asylum Seekers”

Objectives:
1. To describe the role of medical professionals in documenting abuse for asylum seekers,
2. To review the essential components of generating a medical affidavit, and
3. To outline the Human Rights Clinic as a potential model for service learning and advocacy.
