Julianne (Marvin) Munoz, MD, is a shoulder, elbow and sports medicine orthopedic surgeon and assistant professor with UHealth Sports Medicine, a division of the Department of Orthopaedics at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine. The division is the official sports medicine provider for the Miami Hurricanes and Miami Marlins.
Dr. Munoz specializes in shoulder and elbow sports medicine and reconstructive surgery, from arthroscopic rotator cuff and labral repair to anatomic and reverse total shoulder replacement. Having completed fellowship training in shoulder and elbow reconstructive orthopedics at Columbia University Medical Center, she has particular interest in overhead athletes and the injuries they suffer. She enjoys seeing patients from the in-season high school competitor with an acute injury to the weekend warrior with years of wear and tear. She has particular interest in shoulder arthritis and bony deformity. She currently sees patients at the Lennar Foundation Medical Center Sports Medicine Clinic, University of Miami Hospital Sports Medicine Clinic and the Miami Bruce W. Carter Veterans Affairs Medical Center.
Originally from the Boston suburbs, Dr. Munoz graduated from Harvard University with a BA in Spanish Literature. She then went on to the University of Massachusetts Medical School where she stayed for her orthopedic residency training. She then completed additional training at the Columbia University/New York Presbyterian Hospital Shoulder, Elbow & Sports Medicine Orthopedic Fellowship. There she assisted in the care of athletes in the Columbia University Athletics, New York City Football Club and New York Yankees organizations.
Dr. Munoz and her husband, a local anesthesiologist, moved to Miami putting themselves right between her family in Massachusetts and his in Lima, Peru. She has been involved in sports her whole life, playing tennis and volleyball in high school and volleyball for the Harvard Crimson. Miami, with its year-round warm weather, affords an excellent opportunity to take care of an active population of sports medicine and shoulder/elbow injury patients. She has a love of athletics and athletes of all ages and levels. Her main priority is getting her patients back to the lifestyle and activity level they enjoy.
