Dr. Amiethab Aiyer joins the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at the University of Miami as full time faculty. He focuses on the treatment of disorders of foot and ankle, including pediatric foot and ankle conditions. Dr. Aiyer completed his medical training in Philadelphia, PA in 2008. During his fourth year of medical school, Dr. Aiyer completed a research fellowship at the Rothman Institute (Thomas Jefferson University, Philadelphia, PA) under mentorship of Dr. Javad Parvizi, with specific focus on chemical modification of cancellous bone graft with antibiotics as a means for combating periprosthetic infection. He subseqently completed his orthopaedic surgery residency at the Penn State-Hershey Medical Center in Hershey, PA. During the course of residency, Dr. Aiyer garnered multiple awards, including OREF Resident Research Symposium Selections, the Alan Levine Scholarhip in Orthopaedic Graduate Medical Educaiton through the AAOS and was also selected as an AOA Emerging Leader. In his final year of residency, Dr. Aiyer was awarded the Arnold P Gold Resident Teacher Award by the Penn State Medical School Class of 2014. He went on to complete a research and clinical fellowship at the Institute for Foot & Ankle Reconstruction at Mercy Hospital in Baltimore, MD, under mentorship of Dr. Mark Myerson, Dr. Clifford Jeng, Dr. John Campbell and Dr. Rebecca Cerrato. During the course of fellowship his research interests included biomechanical evaluation of implatns for 1st TMT arthrodesis, biomechanical evaluation of revision hallux MP arthrodesis, impact of metatarsus adductus on development of hallux valgus and new surgical techniques. Dr. Aiyer has special interest in multiple facets of Foot & Ankle research (clinical, biomechanical and
basic science) and teaching; he is honored to join the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery here at University of Miami.
