Dr Merenda joined the faculty at the University of Miami/Jackson Memorial Hospital in July 2011. He serves as an Attending Physician in Neurocritical Care at Jackson Memorial Hospital and University of Miami Hospital, Medical Director of the Neurointensive Care Unit at the University of Miami Hospital, and Assistant Professor of Clinical Neurology, Neurosurgery and Neurocritical Care.
Dr. Merenda received his medical degree (summa cum laude) from the University of Messina, Italy, and completed a Neurosurgery Residency at the same Institution, achieving the Italian Board Certification in Neurosurgery (summa cum laude) in 2006.
Additionally, he completed a clinical-research fellowship in traumatic brain injury (TBI) in the Department of Neurosurgery at the Virginia Commonwealth University Medical Center (Richmond, VA), under the mentorship of Dr. Ross Bullock. During that time, Dr. Merenda gained extensive experience in the application and interpretation of multimodality neuromonitoring in patients with traumatic brain injury, using both cerebral microdialysis and brain oxygen tension monitoring techniques. Subsequently, he completed a UCNS-accredited clinical fellowship in Neurocritical Care at Case Western Reserve University (Cleveland), obtaining advanced Neurocritical care training.
Dr. Merenda is a member of the American Association of Neurological Surgeons, American Academy of Neurology, Neurotrauma Society, Neurocritical Care Society, and Critical Care society. His special clinical and research interests include traumatic brain injury (TBI), acute cerebrovascular disease and the application of neuromonitoring techniques in patients with acute brain injury, such as cerebral microdialysis and brain oxygen tension monitoring.
