Orlando E. Silva, M.D., J.D., F.A.C.P., F.C.L.M.

Orlando E. Silva is a medical oncologist specializing in breast cancer. He is an Associate Professor at the Miller School of Medicine, University of Miami, and serves as the Director of Breast Cancer Education at the University of Miami /Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center.

He is a Fellow of the American College of Physicians, a Diplomat of the American Boards of Internal Medicine, Hematology, Oncology and Forensic Medicine. He graduated from Northwestern University Medical School in 1988, in Chicago, Illinois. He completed his residency in Internal Medicine at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, Michigan in 1991, and his fellowship in Hematology and Oncology at Duke University in Durham, North Carolina in 1994. He is a member of the American Society of Clinical Oncology and other national and international medical societies.

In 2002, Dr. Silva created the InterAmerican Breast Cancer Conference which is held in Cancun, Mexico. The conference has turned into a world meeting focusing on what to do with your patient at the bedside_.  One of the objectives of the meeting is to create a bridge across the Atlantic Ocean which will unite American and European physician/scientists. At this bi-annual meeting, Dr. Silva established the Umberto Veronesi Award for Excellence in Breast Cancer Research and Development.

He is fluent in English, Spanish & Italian.  In addition to his love of learning, Dr. Silva founded the Emmaus Medical Mission in 2003 which completes at least two medical missions a year.  The missions are dedicated to treating the medical needs of the underserved, impoverished and forgotten people of Latin America.

The first edition of his book “Breast Cancer a Practical Guide” was published by Elsevier in 1999 and has been published in multiple languages including Portuguese and Korean. He is currently working on his 4th edition.  Dr. Silva is a popular speaker on issues of breast cancer education and treatment.
